I think it is more along the line of Mario games--great entertainment for all ages without having to worry about content. It doesn't have overwhelming, stunning graphics. This is a good example of how a "wholesome" game can be a lot of fun and you don't need the other stuff.There are many levels to this game which holds my daughters attention as well. My daughter loves this game. It isn't an action packed thriller. I want my daughter to love her games but I do not want violence, language, etc.
And the second portion: Having a lot of lives to begin will helps - you'll need them. Awesome game. We need more DK games available for DS. A VERY fun game for everyone. The first portion seems very difficult, but once you get to the 2nd portion, it makes the first portion seem very easy. Unlike the original, this game gives you unlimited challenge. Challenges, challenges. One tip: gather as many lives as you can because you'll need them for the end of the first challenge.
It's easy to earn extra lives and "perks". I find it challenging enough to be entertaining, but not frustrating. I am an average mom, mid 30's, play a bit a night for fun / entertainment. All things considered it's a good game. It's fun to play. Only downside is that the game (so far) is pretty repetitive - climb things, find things, go to next level.
If you like the Mario games, you will love this. While it is sometimes very difficult, ultimately, with practice you can beat anything (so far). I love this game, as does my 10 year daughter. We still haven't finished it after 6 months, there are many new areas that we have yet to reach. Lots of different skills and moves to learn.
I am picky about my video games and like to play on Nintendo DS - this is an old standard with some new moves.
